Is there any hardware add-on that can connect an 8 track digital recorder to a PC for further audio editing for video work ?

I have recorded a band on two 8 track digital recorders (16 tracks) and want an easier way of importing/transfering them to my PC for processing/mixing usin Adobe Audition.

Yes there are many 8 track or more audio capture devices for the pc.
This will most probably be far too extreme for you however have a peek:

24 Analogue Ins and Outs

Or perhaps something a bit more sane:

Probably a good idea to give DV a call if you want to know anything more specific.

I just thought, I dont know weather these will allow you to direcly import these into audition- that you will need to find out. Or perhaps you are better to mix down first (depending on what you are trying to achieve)

there's nothing to stop you installing lots of sound cards in your PC and assigning each one to a different pair of tracks on audition... assuming you have some free PCI slots that is...

mark.

Try this one, 8 analogue in and 8 out. Sounds like it might be a solution...

You would have to record them as two passes of course, once from each recorder or buy two cards of course

The question that hasn't been asked so far is 'What are the 8 track digital recorders that you used?'

Do they not have a digital download facility? For example, my Zoom 1608 (an eight-track digital recorder) has a USB2 output to enable all the individual tracks to be downloaded on to a computer for mixing or storage.

So what make and model did you use?

Thanks all for the responces.

As I write this I haven't yet checked out the links above. But will do shortly.

Ray,
I used two different recorders. My own Korg D1600 which is an 8 track digital recorder which records direct to internal/removable hard drive.
The other machine I'm not sure of make or model but it was a recorder which recorded direct to VHS/SVHS video tape (40 mins recording for E180 approx).
There is no USB links out of either however there is a 'digital' output out of the Korg.
Can this be connected to the PC ?
You probably need more information on this but as it is not at hand I can only say from memory that it can connect to a mini-disc recorder via this digital link. It may have a red light in it, but again I'm not 100% on this.

Can the hard drive be linked easily from the Korg if I was to remove it ?

My problem with transfering the files is the time taken to do so. The performances (3 nights) were 150 mins each, multiplied by 8 tracks ... thats alot of downloading/file transferring.
