From time to time I need to flip an avi file horizontally and end up using MS Moviemaker because my normal editing software doesn't do this.
I felt the microsoft program was a bit slow so I looked at alternatives. I tried Virtualdub but have hit a bit of a brick wall, for some reason Virtualdub will take a 2GB avi file, flip it and output it as a 15GB file!
Is there any free alternative faster than MS Moviemaker?
John
Have you changed the compression settings in vdub, Video>compression?
My original 37.9mb comes out at 588mb (uncompressed), 59.2mb (Cineform), 61.4mb (Canopus HQ) and 213mb (Lagarith).
Or these -

what software are you using normally, John?
I personally use Serif Movieplus X3 which for virtually everything else is fine.
The reason I have to flip the image is because I transfered a 16mm film which was a collection of short films spliced together. Like a lot of 16mm films, the person who spliced the film didn't have an editor and some of the sequences are the wrong way round. Rather than run the film through the projector twice I usually flip the images that are the wrong way round in software.
I'm just surprised that the avi file produced by Virtualdub is bigger than the original avi file,.
Thanks for the tips Dugi, I'll look into these.
I tried the links but when I went to download them, both were flagged up by Comodo as having Malware so I abandoned that.
