Can you give us any budgetary indications of price, Mark?

All depends on what you require. For instance, if I need to hire an orchestra for the project etc etc.

A rough guide would be between £75-£100 /minute. This would include all genres of music, from orchestral to electronic. This would buy you the licence to use the music as you wished in your own productions (usual exclusions would apply).

However, if there was interest in my producing "off-the-shelf" work, then the price would be proportionate to the amount of people buying said tracks (handy if five of you wanted generic wedding video stuff, for example).

Any further questions, let me know!

Is this a workable method of "specifying" what we might want: (for example?)

Two minutes of music just like Elgar's "Nimrod" variation, but done electronically (to avoid orchestra hire) but still sounding orchestral?

How would you react to such a comission?

This would be the normal level of brief that most creatives would give! ;)

It would be possible to recreate much of the orchestra electronically, and to produce a suitable "pastiche" of this piece is certainly do-able.

Depending on the length of excerpt you wanted, you would be looking at the upper price bracket as this sort of commission involves a lot of work. Read £100/minute for upper price bracket.
