Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post this but I am looing for the best price and place to buy a manfrotto 501/525 kit and a good case to carry my XL2, something like Kata or Portabrace, or if you know of something just as good.

Thanks
Paul

i'd recommend a peli case for the XL2. If it breaks you get it replaced for free. You get it with diced foam and then pluck it to fit the camera. I have two for my Z1 and FX1.

Sorry Gary but I have to disagree with that. Personally I find Prestons a nightmare and know that I'm not the only one. They have competitive prices but their customer service is shocking. proav.co.uk are incredibly helpful and have competitive prices to boot - can't recommend them enough. creativevideo.co.uk is another one worth a try.

i'll have a look and see what might be suitable. I just like the idea of being able to customise the interior for other gear as well.

My z1 is in a peli 1600 and theres tons of space left. I also have the charger, tapes, mics, lenses, dv walkman and other bits and bobs in the same case. the 1600 cost me £160.

I'll look up the dimensions of a xl2 and see if theres a decent case that will suit.

It may be another option for you and peli cases are very tough.

Camera cases tend to be overpriced for having trendy name.
I also think they shout out 'nick me', so I use DIY style tool chests.
This one:
http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=59470&ts=22785
I had for lighting in top case, camera and other accessories in bottom.
Easy to wheel so you can carry everything in one trip to venue, reducing opportunity for thefts when in public areas. Also saves back ache.

The lower chest was too small when I changed to Z1E, so I bought another large tool chest with upper tray - again wheeled(but 2 wheels at end not at side like the one above)
Base area has space for ME66 + softie, wide angle lens etc.
I made divisions etc with thin ply and foam for wobble free fit.

These are great for in/out car etc, but wouldn't reccomend for flights where abuse is to be expected and strong padlock needed.

The Stanley DIY case is a great option for loads of gear.

The Peli 1650 looks like the best size for the XL2, a bit pricy but would hold loads of extra stuff as well, I will go for this option and will price around for the keenest prices.

Thank you all for your help.
