Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to show our latest clip which is a bit more different to our past ones.
We decided to go for a more cinematic approach to this film, which we think works well with the type of event and the venue itself.

We brought Pete James from Engage to work with us who was a big help on the day and provided the crane services.

We don't think we will make this our usual style for our highlights but we enjoy giving our couple the option to make their highlights this way if they prefer it.

Let us know your thoughts :)

Hi David

Must admit I first watched it a few days back but got distracted with a call half way through. It's certainly packed with very nice shots and it's obvious you are highly skilled both in operation and creativity. My only real criticism is that I think it is perhaps a bit style over substance. I know you said this was a bit different for you but this had the feel of a trailer as opposed to highlights. I wouldn't be afraid to throw in a few bog standard shots just to move the story along more naturally.

Really liked the colours throughout. Presume this has been graded in post? The only noticeable technical aspect, and I suspect it was more a imitation of the venue, was that the speeches were very reverbed out.

I have to say the use of 2.35:1 baffles me as an aspect ratio. Not a direct criticism on you as it seems fairly common. Why on earth would you not want to fill the screen of your super duper HD TV.

I liked it overall though

We use 2.35:1 on some edits as it heightens the feelings were trying to get across. It allows you to mask out a lot of the background and tell the viewer exactly what you want them to focus on. Often, more isnt always better. Its often more of nothing and thus filling your shot with imagery which has little gravitas.

We use it ourselves on occasion, but more often than not we just go with standard 16:9. It depends how emotional the piece is.

Liked it a lot David. Didn't think it was vastly different from your normal style though. I sometimes use 2.35:1 for the highlights, just to make it stand out from the rest of the film a bit more.

Hi Doolahroak,

Thanks for your comment.
This was indeed a trailer as doesnt show as much of the day as the highlights.
It is a shame with the sound during the speeches as it was so echoey that getting good sound was hard.

The reason for the 2:35 is that we were going for a more cinematic feel which often uses this ratio. For many of our highlights we use 16:9.

Thanks Arthur.

I think the choice of music, pace, length of the film, dissolves is different to our regular highlights.
I guess you see right through it and you still see the same man doing the editing ;)

Thanks

As a professional wedding video maker who write in this forum for advice is it for guidance or are they uncertain of style they are using?.
I think for the material i have seen over they years is a leap from the days of VHS tape production.
I still maintain as long as the customer is happy with one's work, any input of showing once's work could enhance idea's for cowboy video makers.
Then again i'm happy to watch some marvellous productions.
