Distributing DVD's in the UK.

I have seen a gap in the market, in putting out archive footage on DVD.

I am trying to obtain the rights to some old sports matches etc, in a nicle little box set.

I would really like to set up a distribution company for this, instead of selling the content on to an existing distributor. Then in time, if the initial batch is a success, release further products under the same umbrella.

I have no experience in the distribution field (except for dealing with distributors as a content provider).

What would I need to set up shop?
I figure:

- Contacts with retailers.
- Contact with printers and packaging.
- Contact with barcoding firm.
- Contact with BBFC.

I currently have my own LTD so setting up another would not be a problem.

Could anybody esle point me in the direction of toher things I would need to study and research?

Thanks!

Sure, have a look here, here, here, here and finally here.

Actually, that last one was started exactly one year ago (to within a few minutes) - on this rather unusual day. Is this some sort of game you're having with us Nin?

If you're still genuine, then I fear that whatever goodwill there is on this board to help you, you're boiling that away with your repeated - albeit slightly different - variations on this same theme.

When have I ever spoke of starting up a distribution company? What is even remotely close?

Moobile, this is a PUBLIC forum. There is no "entry exam" to sit. The point of forums are that they are a sharing ground of knowledge. If my posts are redundant to you, simply don't go in them. Sorted!

Fair enough. I hope you find what you need. Just my attempt at a friendly/humorous warning. Sheesh.

I don't see what is friendly/humerous about any aspect of your post, or previous attempts to beat home that same message.

Hi
From where I sit (editing just what you are talking about) there are others already doing just that. However if you have the rights to the footage then no doubt you can broker a deal.

But setting up as a distributor may well be an uphill struggle - even 2 entertain couldn't save Woolworths, and they are/were one of the biggest/most-profitable distribution companies doing special-interest video. (Though the BBC is trying to buy out Woolies share, so the business can continue).

Hi - How did you sell the 20,000 DVDs here ( http://forums.dvdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=43576) If this was a success, why not carry on in the same way rather than risk the considerable set up costs required going it alone.
Unless you have a huge library of ongoing themes and wad of dosh to stack em high in the shops until they sell, it seems a very low odds gamble.

Do not follow, I may not lead. Do not lead . . . I may not follow.

To be honest, Mooblie has a good point! If you go to the last "here" it takes you back to his comments of last year & then you could see a post by Foxy taking you back to June of that year when you were asking about distribution!

As Mooblei comments, & I wholeheartedly aggree with him, this forum has & continues to give a wealth of advice, help, suggestions etc. When, however, what appears to be questions of a similar nature, NOTE the word, SIMILAR, nature, sometimes members get slightly p**$$ed off. Mooblei gave it as good advice in a good natured way, take it as such or maybe you should seek ADVICE elsewhere. I also note that you have never posted general follow-ups as to how well your schemes had fared. Personally, if I was distributing something & it had been successful, I would have given somekind of follow up, but then, that`s me as opposed to.......

Why even bother with DVD distribution when you could do the whole thing on-line with paypal payments or other methods accepted.

Have a troll around solutions are out there that are more cost effective than DVD production for this type of material.
