External F/W Seagate HD "Driver Error"

Ok, here's my setup...

- LG Laptop with a 4-pin FireWire connector

- External 160GB Seagate F/W + USB2 (Ultra ULT31310 Disk Enclosure + ST3160023A Hard Drive), connected to the Laptop via 4pin-6pin F/W cable

- Panasonic DV Camera connected to the External HD via 4pin-6pin F/W cable

Now, I've had no problems in accessing the external hard drive during regular operations in windows... but once I try to set up Adobe Premiere to capture the video off the DV Camera, an error pops up saying something along the lines of "... Driver Error..." and it sort of disconnects my external HD alltogether. Meaning, Windows doesn't register it anymore, and I gotta reboot to "get it back". What could be the problem here?

(NOTE: I was able to capture around 10mins of video the first time I tried it, and then I got the same error and it just messed up all the video, as well as the access to the external drive)

I've got "file indexing" turned off on both internal laptop hard drive as well as external, and the "write caching" is also turned off on both.

Could that be the problem? Or something else?

ok, i've turned off the "quick removal" option and turned on the "write caching" on both HDs and it seems to have helped... let me try and capture this one tape off the DV camera and see if it actually works fine.
