I have a LaCie ext hard drive which all of a sudden is not powering up.All i get is a very faint light on the front (where once it was bright) and no hd activity at all.The power outlet to transformer is lit up.Im hoping its the transformer connection which of course is specific to this product only making it very difficult to try something else. This seems like a nightmare coming up as returning the unit for repairs will mean a reformat (automatic apparently) and getting the drive copied will be expensive.
Has anyone had a similar problem with an effective work around.

open ext hard drive container.
remove hard-drive.
connect hard-drive to a spare ide cable.
does it work ?
if no , the drive is dead.
if yes , ext case is faulty.
