Hard drive etter has changed

I recently formatted and installed Windows XP Pro and SP2 on a brand new hard drive, then I noticed that my hard drive had been allocated a new letter “F" and not the conventional “C” I have looked into the system management to change the letter but it will not allow this particular drive to be changed. Any body know why this has happened and if it can be put back to the more familiar drive letter “C” ?

It happens ..... did you have another hard drive in the machine at the time , or did you boot from a floppy disk.

if you booted from xp cdrom with no other drives attached , it should have allocated drive 'c'

You can change it , but i wouldn't bother ..........
drive letters aren't important to the computer as it knows where %system% etc are and will install accordingly.
