I have three HD drives on my video PC. Drive 'C' of course. Drive ''E' a 40 gig and Drive 'D' a 200 gig that has video material stored on it. This is named (wow) 200g drive.

Just switched on the machine and whilst the machine recognises the 'D' drive it does not have the name any any attempt to explore the drive just comes up with the message.'DRIVE NOT FORMATTED. DO YOU WANT TO FORMAT IT NOW?

What's the problem? Can it be cured? How? Luckily I have the material backed up. Help appreciated.

1. the mbr / file structure is a little borked.
2. yes , it MAY be curable
3. i have recoverred drives using 'partition magic'

the way to look at it is.

1. how many hours to recover vs how many hours to recreate from backups.
2. cost in man hours and program to do the recovery.

Ummmmm . . . Thanks Gary. Well it looks as if I will have to reformat the disc and then reinstall the back-ups. Although the backups are on another HD and can be used from there. Pain in the A**** but that's life. Thanks for the advice.
