I'm looking for a casing that houses 3 or 4 ide sata drives with controller that is connected to a pc by either its own pci card or perhaps Firewire 400 or 800. The drives need not be hot swappable or RAID enabled. I currently use an offline USB2 300 gig and another offline Firewire 300 gig Maxtor with the usual onboard drives but need substantially more storage - something in excess of 2 terabyte. Apart from Fusion 400, any thoughts please?

I havew always used WorldSpan
for my discs.

They do a range of large firewire drive housings that can be loaded up.

i do't know if this is any cheaper than lots of smaller firewire drives. - which would be self contained.

a friend who works in a London facilities house is now using firewire drives like tapes, giving them to clients and storing them.

Dave - thank you, very helpful.
I think I'll go for the 4 box Firewire 800 with just the one caddy all for around £500 for 1200 gig!

I too like Span, nice people and good products.
I would however also suggest you look at the LaCie range of Bigger Discs. They do some nice FW arrays, and I am just saving up for their raid 5 1tb version.
