No TV volume

I have just connected a Panasonic TX-L19x5B in place of an older CRT TV. It connects to a DVD player and a Humax PVR, via a five way scart box. All have a volume control on their remotes, but the TV volume does not work!

The headphone out is fixed, but changeable in a menu. There does not seem any way to vary the volume from the scart out, unless it can be done via optical out. I shall have to buy a converter to try it, but think this will be the same. Output to the amp. is through a scart to phono plug.

Anyone with any ideas please......

Re: No TV volume

Unless your DVD or PVR are made by Panasonic it is unlikely that their remotes would control the TV volume without being set up for it first.

Does the remote from the TV work?

Having had a quick look online at the user handbook, it tells you to use AV2 for the audio.

It may be that AV1 sends audio at a set level, but AV2 (phono) allows variable volume.
worth a try

Thanks Dave M and Wisz.

The TV remote volume only works for the tinny speakers in the set. AV2 is RGB plus audio in only.

So I shall have to get the soldering iron out and build a pre-amp with a volume control. I only need the TV sound if for any reason the family want to watch it. I only want the TV as a preview for editing. So i`m not in a hurry yet, but thanks again.

Re: No TV volume

Scart / phono / optical outputs will all be "line level" this is fixed (probably at -10dBv)

You should use your amplifier volume control to adjust the listening volume.  Dropping the level before the amps preamp stage will cause issues with signal to noise ratio.

Re: No TV volume

Thanks sleepytom.

Got it sorted a short time ago. I added another volume control and input, to an old pre-amp using an LF353. Both the PC and the output from the scart now have independent volume control.
