People have been asking for a vBulletin style "todays posts" link.

We now have a block in the side bar with latest threads and latest comments - I know it is not ideal having two blocks, I will attempt to merge these into a single block showing the latest activity in the forums.

Added vBulletin style "Today's Posts" link at the top of the page, marking this as resolved now, but would like opionions as to the importance or not of having both the link at the top AND the side bar boxes?

Re: [Partially RESOLVED] New Posts / Today's Posts
Thanks for that Tom.
Just to make it harder: it used to be that you could ask to see "new" posts (i.e.posts since you last logged on) rather than today's posts. Seems to me that that's a bit more useful.

Is that a feature that's
a) possible to implement and
b) something that would be preferred?

Thanks so much for your work: really seeing the improvements in leaps and bounds.

Re: [Partially RESOLVED] New Posts / Today's Posts
Actually vBulletin did both - non-logged in users got todays posts and logged in used got "new" posts in the top menu and a link in a drop down to "todays" posts.

I think that "today's posts" is a lot more useful, it shows you what is happening on the forum (it's not actually based on today at all, it's just recent additions really) "New Posts" means you'll miss things, if you say go to the new posts page when you visit the site a 10am and you follow say 2 of the thread that are displayed, you then log out and have a cup of coffee before coming back to the site at 12.30 (yes its a big coffee!) When you return you would go to 'new posts' which would only show posts which had been added whilst you were drinking your coffee. This would mean that you wouldn't see a post which you thought you might look at when you saw it at 10am but then didn't have time to read before you needed the coffee.

With Today's Posts, you get to see the recent stuff that is going on. You don't only see super active topics but everything which has been added recently. This is a lot better for the community as a whole as it means people who have posted something which hasn't attracted replies still apears in the list for everyone to read.

I'm hopeful that we can build a better system than the old site had. This does mean there will be changes, but I hope in time people will come to like them.

Also please bear in mind that the system is currently undergoing quite heavy devlopment, as such lots of content will be flagged as updated even when it actually hasn't been changed. When I stop messing about with it then everything should make more sense and become an acurate and useful way of keeping track of the activity on the site.

Thanks for your reply Tom. Yes, that makes sense. Ignore my request!
And I love your positivity that we're building a better system! I like the sound of that!

Cheers

For my money, the site is now looking pretty good.   A big thank you to everyone - especially Tom - whose efforts have dragged this Forum into a better place!

The best news is that real 'DV Forum' questions (and answers) are now outnumbering complaints about how things ain't wot they used to be!!

Great stuff

I notice the "Author" shown on "Today's Posts" is the thread originator.... Do you think it would be better to show the name of the last contributor?

(...and another quick Thank You to Tom for the sterling work he's put in to this...)
