Have just moved from Prem CS4 to Prem CS6 and imported some digital avi files from the Sony HVR-MRC1 memory unit on to the HD. (This is from CF card not from tape.) They play 16x9 OK in Explorer BUT when imported into Prem CS6 timeline they are shown as 4x3. I have tried 'scale to frame' to no avail. I have started the project again double checking the settings and so far as I ca see all is set for 16x9. Any ideas please?  Pete

That's strange. My MRC1K files usually import into CS6 as 16:9 no problem.....  I bring them in with the Sony utility. I'm shooting HDV from Z5, never DV.

Anyhow, easy to solve the problem:

in the project window right click on the clips. Modify-> interpret footage-> then go to the pixel aspect ratio, and choose the appropriate setting. If you're shooting HDV then it's the HD Anamorphic Setting. If you're shooting DV then it's DV Widescreen.

Then if you right click on one of your clips and go new sequence from clip then CS6 will create a new sequence with the exact same settings as from your clip, so guaranteed right size.

Have you updated to most recent version which is CS6.03?

Mark,

Thank you so much for your advice. Your directions worked fine. Luckily my project is only a test so it’s no major problem. Your help is appreciated.

There is a bit of a tale really. I use a Z5 but only rarely, up till now shoot HD. I don’t often use the MRC1K (always been a tape man) but have never had a problem in importing to my previous PC  (CS4) using the Sony Utility. Therefore I wasn’t expecting problems. One of the reasons for getting a new machine is so that I can tackle HD with less hassle with slowness.

Perhaps I’m trying to run before I can walk, as at the moment, the new PC doesn’t seem to recognize the MRC1K.  The Sony Utility doesn’t show the MRC1K so what I did was to put the CF into an adaptor in a USB. The few SD files imported with no problem but then I had the 4x3 problem. Perhaps I should wait until I can get the MRC1K recognised before doing more tests.

Because the machine & CS6 is totally new from DVC I note that the version installed is CS6.03.  Nice to know you are using basically what I am with far more experience than myself. Thanks again.  Pete
