Problem low level formatting SCSI drive on Mac

Can someone help me resolve a problem I have doing a low level format on a new hard disc on my Mac.

I attached a brand new IBM Ultrastar ES 9 Gig hard disk to the internal 50 pin connector of a FWB Jackhammer Ultra SCSI card in the computer.

I launched Hard Disk Toolkit which correctly identified the new drive (connection and SCSI termination were OK). I selected the drive and using Auto Initialize proceeded to perform a low level format.

After several hours the progress indicator had hardly moved so I restarted the computer.

Now I cannot get my Mac to boot up with the new drive attached. It will only boot up and work correctly with the new drive disconnected.

I now seem to have a Catch 22 situation where I cannot format my new disk because if I connect it the Mac won't start.

I have also tried starting the Mac using the emergency Startup CD but this doesn't work.

Please help.

Hi John,
is this your only drive? what happens if you put your old one back in? What worries me is damage to the drive when you re-booted. Also did you try taking jackhammer out of the loop? Have you a freind who could format it, or possiably the dealer who sold it to you?

Not much help realy, regards, Lou
