I edit in Avid and author DVD's in Encore. To transcode I have been using Canopus ProCoder, however the other day for some reason the programme got corupted and has been asking for an activation code. I'v contacted Canopus who have tried removing all files and folders but to no avail. They now say that my registry is corupt and the only way to fix it is to wipe all the drives and reconfigure, which I do not want to do if at all poss, does anyone have an answer to this problem, thanks

After uninstalling ProCoder, try just going into your Registry Editor and deleting all the entries related to Canopus or Procoder. Then try re-installing.

Otherwise, you may have to follow their advice.

Registry editing needs an "at your own risk" caveat. It is also worth setting a system restore point before starting.

I see no reason why you should have to 'wipe' any drive other than the C: drive even if the registry editing fails.

In case you are not familiar with registry editing please ask again.

Thanks for both replies, I'm not familiar with registry editing and would be very worried about deleting something I shouldnt. The main reason I dont want to wipe the Cdrive is that I have deadlines coming up soon and I have one particular programme that I dont have the disk for, lost not a pirate, and it will take a while to get a new one.

The way I look at it on these occasions is that if I do screw up the registry then I'm still left with my next option I.e. re-install XP.

In fact, I've only had to do this a couple of times out of maybe twenty plus incidents. (I review software so I'm often running badly behaved betas)

Basically, just do a search on Canopus in the registry and delete all the keys you find then repeat with ProCoder just in case. (the F3 key will continue the search after each deletion) Then reboot at least once, better twice, and re-install ProCoder.

PS the previous advice only applies if ProCoder is the only Canopus app you have installed.

Thanks again Rob as you say I dont have a lot to loose, I can just re instal XP. Will wait to get my programme disk first though, all the best, Mike.

Best of luck, Mike. If you have time please let us know how you get on. It might save someone else one of these days.

When you have re-installed, buy a copy of Norton Ghost, or an equivalent program from elsewhere and make an image of your fully working Windows installation. Next time you need to re-install it will take you a quarter of an hour, and everything will be activated just as it was!
