Raid controller on Asus A7V333 motherboard

I cannot get my 2 IBM deskstar 75Gb ata100 hard drives to perform properly on the on board raid 0 on my new ASUS A7V333 motherboard. The array exists but write speed is only about the same as on a single ata 66 drive on an ordinary IDE connection.(read speed is somewhat better but still not brilliant It is not a hard drive fault per se as I can install the same drives on the raid controller of an older Asus A7v 133 motherboard and achieve blistering performance.

My system is Dvstorm/AMD XP 1800 / 512 Mb PC 2100 memory / Maxtor 40 Gb ata 133 system drive (which works perfectly at full speed) Matrox G400 dual head.

Any ideas?

1. Are you sure you are using RAID 0 and not disk spanning (JBOD).

2. If not 1. Are the disks on the same channel (IDE3/4) or two different ones? Also what is the strip size?

Finally what benchmark did you use? If you used HDTach then it will give odd results as it does not particularly like RAID arrays, especially promise controllers.
