Hi

A strange question.

What would happen if I inserted a normal IDE 80 wire cable into the Firewire / IDE bridge in my ADS caddy and then hung two HD's off the other end. Maybe setting one to slave and one to master?

Could you merge to HD's this way. For example have two 250gb linked to be a 500gb HD. Would you need to set the jumpers to the raid settings?

Power wise I'm sure one of those power adapter would allow you to split the power two way.

Just a thought I had.

Thanks

Til

Til , I would suggest that if the external housing says it's for one drive , thats all it will handle.

you could however , cheat , buy one of these http://www.span.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3616
insert into case ( if enough room ) and do what you want.

or this http://www.span.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1061 which is an all in one solution

Cheers Gary. They look nice. The budget at work might just stretch to it! It'll mean no sugar in the staff room for a while of course.

Gary

Off topic.

How did you get the MSN Messenger icon so that people can message you?

Presumably the same way you did :)

Get my test cards document, and cards for 625, 525, 720 and 1080. Thanks to Gavin Gration for hosting them.
Camera settings documents are held by Daniel Browning and at the EBU
My book, 'Circles of Confusion' is available here.
Also EBU Tech.3335 tells how to test cameras, and R.118 tells how to use the results.

Try one of these:

As you get a rather fine case, they are much better value than the bridge board. I have the two bay case at the top of the list with a Lian Li RH600 caddy system and an LG DVD drive in the box. Very flexible. It is self powered, so no brick!

Hi
I've got one of these, built into an old DataSilo SCSI dual drive case (exact match for a SCSI connector), and it works fine (using Mac OS X and FW800 ).
I also have the other Initio one Span sell, with 2 ATA channels, allowing 4 drives - although I only use the 2 master connections (under Cable Select configuration).
span.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=1308

As Gary says, single channel bridge boards invariably don't support 2 drives.

I tried exactly this (with an ADS Pyro case and two WD 120GB drives) a year or two back - and - to confirm what everybody here is saying - it didn't work. Neither drive was seen, whatever settings were made on the drives.
