Anyone had any experience good or bad of buying an editing system from these people?
Bad, but it was over six years ago. The system took nearly a month to arrive, and was faulty from the start. I finally left the system with them when I went on holiday for a month, telling them it was for three weeks. When I returned the system was untouched. It took two weeks of nagging to get it back, in a working state. They had replaced the motherboard.
Thereafter I looked after myself, with a lot of assistance from the people here and on the Pinnacle DV500 forum.
I think if you do a search of the forum No1 will be DVC of Hove,no connection with them but if buying a PC for editing would be my first port of call.
Another vote for DVC. I have bought from Red Sub a long time ago with no real problems but I've also built a lot of PCs myself. For the next one I'm seriously considering DVC even though it will probably cost me a little more than building one.
Yes, go to DVC. They always turn up at trade shows freely givng help and advice on hardware and software options. They are the only people I know who can give you an honest appraisal of the latest technology based on their own experiences - they actually know what they are talking about !
A vote for DVC here as well, I have three systems from them and it's worth it just to call Ringo and get a weeks worth of enthusiasm in one minute.
I understand that Richard Payne has now left and joined Holdan.
DVC are good but another good, small outfit that I have had several edit suites built by is Tritech in Somerset, 01458/252522 give Nic a call !

Hi
Anyone who works in Muchelney deserves to earn a living - Somerset is God's county, look at the churches - but hopefully their AV service is better than their website's spelling (or html) :(
I'm ordering a Mac today as I'm migrating to FCP but another vote for DVC. If hey did Mac I'd buy from them (but I'm told that Macs don't need so much aftermarket help)

Hi
The Mac won't, but the new Mac user possibly will ;)
The difference being that as the hardware is generic, others apart from the original supplier can offer immediate assistance.
My understanding is that the reason DVC don't do Mac is that the margin is so pathetic.
Another vote for DVC, most helpful and excellent service.
Richard often posts on the forum, and is very approachable if you have any queries.
Mike

The computers work fine but it's the fiendishly complicated programs that you need the help for, they make Edius look like those ABC bricks that I used to play with.
And the manuals, who ever wrote them? deary me. Search today 'title' no results.
Having said that I am slowly getting to like the fiendish things as they do work hard without complaining.

Hi Fuddam -
Your quote is interesting.... What system do you use and what experience, good or bad have you had?
Ron.

Oh, am an occasional FCP user - when the situation demands it. Last time was on 4.5 or 5 - can't remember. Let's just say I have become intimately acquainted with the Spinning Pizza of Death. Not my systems, so can't give more specific details.
My main beef is with stability. My experience is that moving to OS X is not a guarantee of stability, just as using Win XP is not a guarantee of the BSOD. Can get stability on either, can be a nightmare on either. Thus, time will tell for Dave. Hopefully all is smoooooooooth sailing :)

Hi
My next-door-neighbour is qualifying to become a commercial airline pilot for RyanAir. The cost - to him personally - is £20,000.
So he doesn't get the spinning beachball-of-death on the flight deck systems...
And once trained, he won't :)
I had a system built and set up for me by Red Submarine in 2004 and it's been running problem free ever since, I had a DVC machine before that, was very glitchy, when it went t**s up I looked at the Red Submarine website and on that you could design you're own machine picking a combination of the components listed and it would price the machine as you went along, plus the fact they would fit any thing I took off my old machine and set it up including all the software, I chose the Graphics card, tower, processor, power supply, hard drives, everything I thought would work and asked them to confirm that it would, the price was already there as I went along.
My whole dealings with Red Submarine were first rate, the build was on time, they did all I asked, the only thing was they sent a Prem pro keyboard instead of a Prem 6.5 but that was changed soon enough.
I would certainly be happy enough to go to them again.
I can't be the only one on here who has had a good machine from them
