Hi there

I have been asked to film a music video for someone.

Basically they want to copy a Leona Lewis song and video.

What are the issues with this type of thing with copyright etc.

music copyright wise, it's either legal and expensive or illegal.

Are they asking you to copy the video? ie someone else's work? How do yu feel?

it all dpeends if it's a rip off or "tribute"

i know that a lot ofwedding guys do "Perfect Day" in the style of the BBC trailer. - so a tongue in cheek version would/could be ok but a straight rip off is dubious.

The thinking behind it is to encourage new and unsigned bands to approach this guy to direct music a video for them and I film it?

Why not do something original then rather than copy someone elses work?
I am sure a lot of bands would not want in anyway to be associated with a simon cowell product?

If they want you to promote them with a visual video and if they are any good.
Then inform them to check out the copyright and if possible capture one of their songs. otherwise you will be wasting your time and you could end up sorting out the copyright mess.
Not worth the trouble if they cant produce there own material.

I remember reading about Blink 182 doing a rip off of a few boy band videos, they were ordered to pay each one they ripped off $10 or something stupid like that, only 1 company cashed the cheque

I'll see if I can find the story again
