It is my understanding that the DV HD digital master tape doesn't play well with other sorts of tape without thorough head cleaning. Does anyone know if that problem also applies to the new high definition tape?

No firm info, but I'd strongly suspect so. The formulation of the base and glue is different from that of (the now ubiquitous) normal DV tapes, so I'd expect to have to keep them separate, until told otherwise by Sony.
