Having recently purchased Partition Magic - there was one thing I was eager to try out.

I mage a new 500mb partition on my main 8gb C drive, and then pointed my swap file to use this partition (drive E in my case).

What this has done is mean it no longer has to scrabble around an ever increasingly fragmented C drive to find space - it therefore just grows as needed within it's on drive space and hence itself remains less fragmented.

Also, even if there is any fragmentation within it's own contiguous blocks - at least these blocks are themselves contiguous.

Head activity has defifnitely decreased as a result.

And of course - at reboot - the E drive is totally emptied again as the swap file is delted, and a clean-as-a-whistle E drive is ready for a new swap file!
