This applies to EIDE IBM 34 and 37 gb drives,
and might apply to all EIDE drives larger than 33.8 gb.

Please see my posting under Computer Video
magazine.

In his posting on 'CV Magazine', drsolly says "So I put in a Promise card, the usual solution to putting more or bigger drives on a PC.". I've been planning to add a large HDD to my PC, which is based on a hardly state of the art TX motherboard (incorporates UDMA) and fitted with Cyrix 6x86-300M2 processor. Because this motherboard is of obscure Taiwanese origin (HSING TECH ENTERPRISES), AMI do not offer an upgrade to my AMIBIOS Ver 2.7(I think). I've been concerned about problems reported and about need to update BIOS's. Would use of Promise card avoid all this? It could be cheaper and easier than upgrading with new motherboard.

Probably yes, but one can never be certain about this sort of thing.

However, a new motherboard is maybe not as expensive as you thought, have a look at
a few catalogues.
