Have a sudden problem .Maybe caused by an iTunes update.
Would appreciate help. Computer will not respond to links now, (i.e. Link from an email)
and will not respond to desktop shortcut icons, including this forum.

Tried using System restore back to 08 March. No improvement
Message recommended a further back date. Used 06 March. No result. Message appears:

"APPLICATION NOT FOUND.
System restore not completely successful. Your system files not changed..
An unspecified error occurred during system restore.
You might want to try System restore again using a different restore point.
I did, without success.

When the desktop shortcut was tried for this forum - under the above quote was

http://forums.dvdoctor.net/ Application not found.

Can I delete the offending iTunes via Control; panel? If so how - PLEASE.

Re: Vista Ultimate problem
Hi

A google search suggests a virus problem, which may still be present?

These two posts both point to a file association fix by DougkKnox for APPLICATION NOT FOUND

If you try this fix it's entirely at your own risk, I only found it from some google searches and have no personal expereince of it.

The surest fix is a back up of all your files, then format the drive and reinstall Windows

However I've come across viruses that beat a format, the fix that worked for me was downloading the AVG rescue disc which scan the computer in Linux,

Good luck

OK.Thank you for posting.

I have AVG free virus protection so will try a scan first.

Of the desktop shortcuts that do not work;-

(1). Google.
(2). This forum.

(3).  Links, sent with emails, will not display.

Re: Vista Ultimate problem
If it is a virus or similar, running the AVG installed protection is not good enough, you need to download the AVG Rescue disk software and burn it to a CD then boot from the CD - as John mentions, this then runs under Linux outside of the Windows OS and is the only way of deleting any virus, malware or ransomware that can start up with Windows. Other Linux rescue disks are available from most of the main virus protection software companies.

Re: Vista Ultimate problem
That's correct re: AVG, you need download and make a recue disc

I used to be a AVG FREE user but it's not much cop for spyware

Now I use Microsoft  Security Essentials and it seems to keep on top of the spyware as well as the viruses

However it's the file associations that need correcting, which seem to be fixed in the links I posted

Re: Vista Ultimate problem
Resolved by changing actions in control panel that were caused to be altered by a download; probably iTunes.

Nothing weird. Just selecting.

Control panel - Default programs - Associated files.

I suspect a downlload caused alterations.

All fine now.
