Hello,
I have a sound file to email.
The wav version is a bit big and I'm surprised none of my video editing software can export in this format.
e.g. Premiere Pro CS2 has an export audio option, so it's not entirely unreasonable.
It looks like adobe audition needs a plugin to facilitate it.
Googling there a few free tools, but before I download cr*p software I'd rather ask for reccomendations.
Download Audacity (free) & install mp3 plugin - takes 30 secs - works a treat..
Thank-you for the swift response Dave.
I have downloaded Audactity, but not plugin for audition yet as it looks like audacity can do the simple conversion.
But.. each time I 'Project/import audio' it crashes.
The file was created from P.Pro CS2 and sparse on parameters/settings within the format.
I tried aother files, a mp3 and a couple of wav files from other sources and they import fine. Rebooted pc, still the same.
I have to send an email to New Zealand who are waking up now, so I took a chance on 'mp3 converter simple' software, which will convert 30 files for free, so if there is a fix for the failed conversion it would be good to know.
iTunes?
I've never used itunes - thought it was a way of downloading encrypted music files.

It is, but it has the facility to convert non-encrypted track(s) to MP3. A bit over-the-top to download and use for a single conversion though!
I use Shuangs Wave to MP3 converter. Free download from the internet some time ago but no problems and has always done the job
CD EX does it for free.http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/?q=download
Great for ripping as well.

Thank-you Steve,
Obviously works for you but not for me.
The notes suggest it is better on older pc's - win98 etc, and I prefer to install small/freebie programs/utilities from unfamilar source on my old win98 pc, which I did.
Each time I try to run the program, I get a fatal exception. Tried reboot, but ditto.
Mooblie,
Yes It's likely only a one-off requirement (email now sent), but would be handy to have utility for future need.

Dave,
Probably foesn't affect you, but I tried to resolve the above by testing different frequencies/bit-rates for the wav - no joy.
Found suggestions that v1.3 may solve it, as audacity team didn't have problem, so denied problem existed. Downloaded v1.3, but no better.
Googling I find others have had like problems with premiere elements audio export wav's, it seems some xml is tagged on the wav file.
Audacity's response is the usual mexican standoff of 'we don't need to correct - adobe should make standard wav's.
A workaround posted by rfjg of muvpix.com is to import the wav file into another wav editor and save it.
I did this without confidence on audition, I would have thought it's export/save would be similar to not achieve anything as it's still adobe, but this works and I can import to audacity.
I suppose it works because auditions origins are outside adobe.
Dave, for you it's 'what do I care' as I don't think you use premiere, but are obviously happy with audacity, so thought I'd mention it for other premiere users.

Can now confirm - it doesn't open Premiere .wav files on a PC - opens everything else just not Premiere stuff.....
Interestingly - A .wav saved from Premiere in Windows, then sent over a network opens in Audacity on the Mac just fine......;)
Thank-you Dave - Very odd.
Dave, try this one Audio Converter from e-soft.co.uk Can convert to a multitude of formats.
