I have to say I was surprised by this. My answer to the question until a few minutes ago would have had to be "Japan", and I wouldn't have been in much doubt about it. But according to a just received marketing email, the answer's very different..... http://www.sony.co.uk/pro/article/broadcast-products-cep-manufacuring-pencoed?utm_campaign=BC_1307_CRMP_VGMidlife_NL12_EN&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&elq=749f556bf5574d9ca8e30c9c1f41381b&elqCampaignId=423 You live and learn.

What about compiling a list and see if some of us could go down on a certain day and afterwards we all could go for meal and good talk?

I am surprised! I knew that contacting Sony by phone I always spoke with someone in Wales, it's the accent that gives it away wink. On two occasions I had to send cameras back and that was to Wales, one with a know fault and the other under the silver? warranty. I just assumed they had a service centre there, but building them too!

Well there you are boyos. My country is not just about sheep and rugby. By the way you can add the Ford Bridgend Engine Plant to your list. It manufactures the Eco boost engines as well as engines for Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, etc.  Johnblush

That's not a bad idea!! I think you may have got yourself a job to do.....! smiley I was aware that a long time ago Sony had set up a TV manufacturing plant in Wales, but last I'd heard (also quite a while ago) was that it was in decline. Hence my surprise on reading this news. Just nice to get a good news story about British manufacturing industry for a change. If I'd thought any camera company was marketing it's high end camera lines outside Japan, I'd have assumed somewhere else in the Far East or possibly America as that's such a big market.

The manufacturing plant in Wales has been around for a while, and in fact is so good that the Japanese actually come here to learn from the way things are done there! I believe the primary reason it was built was to avoid certain import taxes (anti dumping laws?)

I can see that being the case as far as European sales go - build the cameras in Europe and all European sales become easy. (At least from the tax, admin etc side!) But what about the rest of the world, and in particular the US, which I'd assume was probably the no 1 market for pro camera gear? If I bought a PMW... camera in the US, would that be more likely to have been made in Japan or Wales? Is it easier to export to the US from the UK or Japan? (And I'm still surprised Sony have a second high spec manufacturing plant in Wales, but not the US.)
