Trying to install Vista on a new hard drive and get the following

"Windows is unable to find a system Volume that meets its criteria for installation."

The drive has been formatted into two partitions and just before the message above I am offered a choice of both partitions showing their capacities. The drive is in a caddy as I like to swap back to XP for some programs. We are not talking twin boot but seperate drives. Any clues appreaciated.

Thanks Tony it gives me the start point. My CD/DVD drive was first  to be read but this is something different. Will check on USB situation before BIOS.
Thanks again
