Hey,

When im exporting a movie/adobe media encoder, it exports... takes about 1.30 hours then it does a rendering process, another 1.30 hours for a 59 minute clip.

Is this normal?

It is when you choose 2 pass encoding.

Would this lose video quality?

No, the first pass works out how complex each frame is so that, during the second pass it can compress more efficiently. This is called Variable Bit Rate coding and is common on all commercially pressed disks.

Get my test cards document, and cards for 625, 525, 720 and 1080. Thanks to Gavin Gration for hosting them.
Camera settings documents are held by Daniel Browning and at the EBU
My book, 'Circles of Confusion' is available here.
Also EBU Tech.3335 tells how to test cameras, and R.118 tells how to use the results.

Thank you sir, learn something new everyday.

Another Q: What is GOP Placement? Can this be used to improve on quality. I seem to see some noise on the exported movie. (dots sort of thing).

Sorry for throwing questions at you lol.
