Orbs....they say

Has anyone noticed so called "orbs" on pictures taken with a DSC ?

I just bought a Fuji 2600 (supposed to be half decent for the money) & noticed strange blobs on some pictures taken with flash. My old & trusty Olympus never showed anything like this.

To me it seemed like a fault, however, a relative saw one of the afflicted photos and told me all about "orbs" or "silver balls of light" that are picked up by digital cameras under certain conditions.

Suspecting this to be a load of BLX I did a search on google - there's tons of sites all with mumbo jumbo & ghost theories attached. Altough the odd one says it's dust in the air.

I really thought my camera was faulty but I suspect a replacement would be the same.

To be honest I don't care what causes it but I don't want my pictures being ruined.

Has anyone seem this type of odd effect & does anyone have a DSC recommendation for under £300 that doesn't suffer from it ?

My Fuji2400Z occasionally does this, I assumed it was dust particles just infront of the lens being illuminated by the flash ?

I had the Fuji2600 swapped - the replacement was even worse. So I returned that as well.

The shop in question (no flamer please) was part of the dreaded DSG - and they could not have been nicer - Praise to Curry's Ashton-Under-Lyne - no problem at all in offering a refund or replacement. I choose to pay extra for an Olympus C3000 Zoom & they even gave me the same 10% discount that was on offer at the time I purchased the Fuji.

From what I have read the C3000 is a slightly cut down version of the C3030 - half the buffer (16MB instead of 32MB) and one or two less "extras" but all the good bits, lense, chips etc. are the same.

It certainly tramps the Fuji on the limited test shots I did today. And I haven't seen any "orbs" yet!! (this could change when the pills stop working ).

And, if Kodak deliver what they promise (DC3700+extras for £100) I'll have a camera for Mrs G to play with too.

Hi Gavin,

I had the same problem with my JVC, a 1.5 mega pixel Fuji clone. It only showed when I used the flash. I now have an Olympus C2020 and an E10 neither of them have had this problem so I can only assume that it is somthing that besets JVC/ Fuji cameras.

cheers
